Most goods are not considered sufficiently dangerous to require special precautions during carriage. However, some goods have properties that make them possibly dangerous whilst in transit.

Dangerous goods are liquid or solid substances (and articles containing them) that have been tested and assessed against agreed international criteria (a process called classification) and which are found to be potentially dangerous (hazardous) when transported. They are then assigned a particular classification depending on their predominant hazard.
